Progressive Retailers Paving the Way for Wonderfuel

Launching a premium, sustainable product like Wonderfuel takes bold, forward-thinking partners. We’re proud to team up with three pioneering garden retailers who are leading the charge toward a more sustainable future.

The Gardens Group

Winners of the Garden Centre Association’s Environment & Sustainability Award, Castle Gardens (part of The Gardens Group) is walking the talk on sustainability. CEO Mike Burks shared just a few of their initiatives:

  • Installed three 40,000-litre rainwater tanks to sustainably irrigate plants

  • Cut carbon with 72 solar panels, air-source heat pumps, and LED lighting

  • Peat-free for five years, exclusively selling peat-free compost

  • Reused 15,000 pots last year and runs a successful customer recycling scheme

Mike Burks shares his successful growing trials using Wonderfuel Stage Two compost.

Crocus

As the UK’s leading online gardening retailer, Crocus blends horticultural excellence with deep environmental commitment:

  • Grown 1.22 million peat-free plants

  • 100% rainwater self-sufficient via a 7-million-litre reservoir

  • Increased propagation from cuttings to 30%, reducing imports

  • Only online brand with DEFRA-backed Plant Healthy status

  • Slashed plastic packaging and boosted recycling

Englefield Garden Centre

At Englefield, sustainability meets social impact. This inspiring centre supports people with learning disabilities through hands-on gardening workshops — building skills, confidence, and community. From potting to pruning, they’re cultivating more than just plants.

We are thrilled to launch Wonderfuel with such trailblazing partners — and we’re just getting started. Stay tuned as more retailers join the movement.
